San José Works Interview Day




San Jose, CA– On Friday June 7, 2019, San José Works will host its 4th annual Intern Interview Day pairing over 150 local San Jose youth to potential internship opportunities with nearly 100 various Silicon Valley private and non-profit sector employers. The event will be held from 8:30am to 4:00pm in the Student Union of Yerba Buena High School located at 1855 Lucretia Avenue, San Jose, CA 95122.

The Silicon Valley Organization (The SVO) invites members of the media to cover the interview process and the significance of the San José Works program on Friday June 7th at 11:30am. Our President & CEO, Matt Mahood, will be present from 11:30am to 12:00pm.

Members of the media may also show up anytime throughout the schedule of the day if unable to attend at 11:30am. The schedule runs as follows:

·        8:00am– 8:50am = First Workshop Session Check-In

·        9:00am– 11:40am = Eight Rounds of 15 minute Interviews

·        12:00pm– 12:50pm = Second Workshop Session Check-In

·        1:00pm– 3:40pm = Eight Rounds of 15 minute Interviews

San José Works is a program that was originally jump started through the leadership of Mayor Sam Liccardo and is now run through the Work2FutureFoundation. This non-profit partners with The Silicon Valley Organization (The SVO) through our STRIVE San Jose initiative to connect employers with interns from the East Side Union High School District, the San José Unified School District, as well as at-risk youth identified by the City of San José’s Parks, Recreation& Neighborhood Services (PRNS) Department. Industries include building trades/construction, business/finance, internet of things (IoT), advanced manufacturing/engineering, medical sciences/healthcare, and information communication technologies.


150 students will be placed with a private or non-profit sector employer and 225 students with a department within the City of San Jose, for a total of 375 students participating in San José Works this year. The internship experience provides for up to 120 hours of paid time over the course of six weeks. Additionally, each student is provided with supportive services for transportation to their internship and funds to purchase professional attire.


This collaborative program is made possible not only by private investments from local employers like Facebook, Bank of America, Alaska Airlines, Microsoft, and Western Digital Corporation, but also the County of Santa Clara and state Career Technical Education (CTE) grants, which provide funding for the purpose of training students with a career focus to be prepared for college and careers.

Restaurant Revitalization Fund
Restaurant Revitalization Fund is an SBA grant program that will provide restaurants, bars, and other similar places of business that serve food or drink with funding equal to their pandemic-related revenue loss up to $10 million per business and no more than $5 million per physical location. Changes to Paycheck Protection Program and Second Draw PPP Loan
At the end of 2020, Congress passed, and President Trump signed, a new law that provides for additional relief related to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. This law, the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021 (CAA, 2021), includes a second draw of Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans (PPP Second Draw Loans) and updates to the original PPP loan. It also allows businesses to deduct ordinary and necessary expenses paid from the proceeds of PPP loans.
